U19 world floorball championships!

It just got confirmed.
I will on the roster for Team Canda as goaltending coach for the 2015 U19 World floorball championships in April! Primarily I will be working with one of their goalies, Jeremy Peters who is also the reason that I got the spot on the team. Thank you Jeremy!

Those of you who read the interview I did with Jeremy know that we have kept in touch via email since the 2014 WFC in Göteborg. Only a few days back he suggested that I should talk to their general manager, Dave Soules so I hit him up and he got back to me within hours and only a few emails later, it was decided.

This means that apart from the 6 weeks I will be spending in goalie camps with Pixbo and Warberg this summer I just got eight more fantastic days of floorball offering with huge learning opportunities, and this time it is with a U19 team from Canada! I just sent an email to my employer saying that I won't be able to work for a total of 7 weeks this summer and honestly, I would probably have cancelled any and all plans to be able to do this! I am so thrilled and I just can't wait!

I am really looking forward to this and Jeremy, you can rest assured that I will be planning non-stop for the from now on until the championships in April!

When I wrote that first post in english I mentioned that I had to stop playing when I was 17 on the count of my knee and that I have been coaching since then. Today I only put my gear on to advice my goalies and show exercises but when there are to few goalies I occasionally play for a while during practice. If there is just me and one other goalie at practice I will share the goal with him/her and take turns, that way I get to analyze the goalie and then they get to analyze me. This has been proven to work quite well, since I haven't been playing for about seven years I make small mistakes every now and then (mistakes that I don't want my goalies to make) and when they get to see my play and perhaps make those mistakes we can discuss it after and make sure that they don't make those mistakes. That being said they are also to look for things I do well and hopefully learn from either through discussion or observation!

I just looked up the translation for my knee-thing which was actually a quite obvious translation. I am, after a quick examination by a friend of mine who is a medical officer in the air force, 95% sure that I have torn meniscuses in both knees which means I can't turn my knees in a specific angle. This means I can't play properly so when I'm giving it my 100% it is actually only about 60% of my actual capacity since I can't move the way I used to.
However last night I played with H3 (men's team born -97) and I was able to move better than I ever have before in my time as a coach and it was so much fun! Before the practice I was at the gym with team captain Linus and before I got in to my goalie gear I spent a good while only warming up my knees, and apparently all of that worked and I was able to bring atleast 80% which was fantastic.

Why did I write all of that about my knee? Because I want to shine some light on the importance of warming up properly! You goalies make a lot of very extreme moves that put a heavy strain on your joints and muscles, and if you don't take care of your body you will eventually get hurt and in the worst case scenario you might have to stop playing.

A while back I asked goalies to comment if they wanted to do a profile with me for the blog and if there were enough comments I would write their names down and make a lottery-type thing and name a winner. I was supposed to record this at last nights practice but since I didn't have enough time to record between the practices I did it off-camera.

The competators were: Yessika Bucchave, Ville_303, Oliver Hausenkamph and Alexander "Ryden" Rydqvist.

The winner in this draw was Alexander "Ryden" Rydqvist! Congratulations!
"Ryden", send me an email or drop a comment with your email in and we will make the profile happen! :)

Big thanks to all of you taking part, we will be doing this again if there is still interest out there for doing an interview with me for the blog!

Save!
